about

Grand Tomorrows formed in 2022 when bassist Blake Larson invited guitarist Dutch Huff and drummer David Herrera to jam for an afternoon. They’d never been in the same room together before that day, but they quickly formed a chemistry based on their shared backgrounds in rock, post-rock, hardcore, and jazz. The three set to work developing the songs that would become their debut EP, Skydiving.

The four tracks on Skydiving reach into all corners of the band’s influences. Opener “Fire at the Remsen Foundry” leaps forth with a white-knuckle trip that starts as a garage rock stomp, barreling through tunnels of twisting thrash and prog before re-emerging in an anthemic conclusion reminiscent of Broken Social Scene. Next is “Horse Latitudes”, an homage to Grouper and the Velvet Underground that slows the pace for a few pensive moments. The relief is short-lived as the mood darkens with “Heavy Weather”, the first song the band ever jammed into existence. A subterranean bass riff grounds blooms of crashing post-rock that will make fans of Tortoise and Do Make Say Think feel at home. “Until (If and When)” closes the EP on a triumphant note, bookending an epic guitar-and-noise solo with thick, comfortable slabs of dreamy shoegaze.
